No, not a muffin man's bell but a bell shaped like a muffin used as a fire warning bell long ago, typically in the USA where this one was made in 1868. (engraved on the handle)
I have been looking for an example of this bell, as I have had one like it for over 30 years. I was told it was an old "school bell", but a fire warning bell makes more sense. It came from a local school district where my father worked and thus the association with being a "school bell." This would have been in the era of fire drills for schools and they would have probably had a hand held bell that was used to warn students. This bell was probably used in the 1940's thru early 1950's. I can remember by the late 1950's an electrical bell system was already in use in local schools.
During early life I was known as Fido - so I use that as my internet identity where I can. I am a retired Local Government man who now enjoys a variety of interests. In these blogs I hope to share some of them with anyone with a shared sense of humour who may come across them. But they are mainly for my own interest as a reminder of some of the things I have done in my retirement.
This is one of them.

Thanks. The bell has a wonderful tone - it doesn't warn many people these days!
